We Spoke: Percussion

Fritz Hauser (1953, Basel, Switzerland) develops solo programs for drums and percussion, which he performs worldwide. Cross-media works with architect Boa Baumann, lighting designer Brigitte Dubach, director Barbara Frey, as well as with various choreographers.

 

Compositions and concept pieces for Percussion ensembles and -soloists, sound installations (a.o. Therme Vals/Switzerland, Museum for Architecture/Basel, Castel Burio/Italy, Kunsthaus Zug/Switzerland, Fondation van Gogh, Arles/France), radio plays, soundtracks to film and readings. He collaborates with improvising musicians around the world.

 

In the field of percussion music he has performed with and composed
for soloists and groups such as: Steven Schick, Keiko Abe, Synergy Percussion, Speak Percussion, Michael Askill, Bob Becker, Rob Kloet,
Sylwia Zytynska, Nexus, EnsembleXII, We Spoke…

 

In 2011 the Kunsthaus Zug /Switzerland presented his first solo show KLANGHAUS ZUG with room and sound installations (a collaboration with architect Boa Baumann and lighting designer Brigitte Dubach. In 2013 he has realised his second exhibition at the Kunsthaus Zug (again in collaboration with Boa Baumann) presenting for the first time his sound drawings, a combination of visual art and sound installation: SCHRAFFURHAUS ZUG.
For the opening of the new Fondation Vincent van Gogh in Arles/France in April 2014, Hauser created the sound-drawing TREPPE IM REGEN.

 

His most recent works include a large percussion project at the Roman amphitheatre in Augusta Raurica, SCHALLMASCHINE MAXIMUS (with 20 percussionists), a composition for choir and percussion, the collaboration with KLICK (percussion trio with Lucas Niggli and Peter Conradin Zumthor).

 

Hauser has recorded numerous CDs as soloist as well as with various groups.

 

Fritz Hauser has been awarded several prizes that include the culture prize of the city of Basel 2012 and the music prize of the canton of Basel-Landschaft 1996.
